Wall Street closes at a record for the first time since end of January
Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.04% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:CTEC), which rose 5.62% or 13.00 points to trade at 244.20 at the close. Meanwhile, United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 3.48% or 39.00 points to end at 1,159.50 and Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) was up 3.26% or 148.00 points to 4,692.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which fell 3.16% or 33.50 points to trade at 1,026.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 1.97% or 10.20 points to end at 508.40 and Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR) was down 1.96% or 63.00 points to 3,152.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 869 to 861 and 581 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.86% or 28.87 to $3,387.57 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.62% or 1.00 to hit $62.77 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.58% or 1.04 to trade at $66.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.35, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.32% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 98.06.
